Below are some Google Analytics custom segments that are specifically relevant to George Mason University.

Click any of the links below to import the custom segment into your Google Analytics account.

How to Import Custom Segments

To streamline the process of importing a custom segment, I recommend that you first log-in to Google Analytics before trying to import a custom segment.

When you click the link to import a segment, it will give you a screen similar to the following screenshot:

  • First, you should select in which Google Analytics view(s) you want the segment to be available. In general, unless the segment is only relevant to a specific website/view, you should select “Any view”. Note that all of the segments below are generic and can be used useful for any website/view.)
  • You also have the opportunity to rename the segment. It will default to the name that was set when the segment was created, but this can be changed so it makes sense to you.
  • Click create, and the custom segment will be available to you in the views you selected.

On-Campus/Off-Campus Traffic Segment Details

George Mason University acts as its own internet service provider (ISP). As a result, visits to our websites from virtually all Mason-related networks (including off-site Mason faculty/staff when connected via the Mason VPN) will have a Google Analytics ‘Service Provider’ field value of “george mason university”. This can be used to distinguish Mason network traffic (i.e. on-campus) from non-Mason network traffic (i.e. off-campus).
